Hands On Decision Making
During the decision making activity, I handled the activity with a compromising way. I felt like the class was all over the board with their grades on the exam so I was going to suggest a curve but someone said it before me. I thought that was a good way of raising the grade for the ones that didn’t do so well on the exam while the others get a boost for a higher grade. When I heard the idea of dropping the lowest grade and doubling the highest plus extra credit I felt like I had more of a compete to win vibe because I wanted that since I did pretty well on this exam and I wouldn’t have to worry about getting a bad grade on the other exam. I also had a afterthought for the class, I mean if they do bad on this test, and this is the higher out of the both grades, they would still fail wouldn’t they? But with my compete to win mentality I didn’t care because this would boost up my grade, it will also bring score a letter grade higher which I was pretty happy with. The exercise went pretty well until someone decided that they wanted the essay part on the test. I felt like since Professor Kurpis emphasized that many people had problem with the essay, that person should be considerate that not everyone had problems with the essay because they didn’t study well enough but because English is their second language. I mean I was born here but I felt like it’s better to accommodate other because it’s not their fault that they weren’t born in the United States. I really felt like the essay part shouldn’t be on the next exam. Other than that I think the class handled the situation pretty well.

Thanks for considering of our immigrants. Since English is not my first language, essay part is a big challenge for me. Sometimes i just can not express the meaning very well although i understand the material. I think other people who don't speak English also have the same problem as me.
I totally agree that essay is the most difficult part of exam for some student. For example, for me essay is the exact way to lose a points. In addition, it takes so much time to write essay for me that, I have to hurry and very often make more mistakes even in questions which I know.
I agree with you about not having an essay on the exam. I think the essay was very time consuming and extremely long with all the different parts. Also, it focused more on a certain topic, which made it even more difficult. A lot of times thoughts are flying back and forth and there is only so much you can express on paper in that little time.
Writing an essay is too time consuming, especially during an exam when time is scarce! I totally agree that the essay part should be omitted from the next exam understanding the difficulties that may exist for those students with English as their second language.
Yes no essay on the exam, lost the most point on my essay part. But i think more u write and more time u invest it will definitly get improve. Practice make it perfect.
